It has always been KIK’s vision to devolve local management issues to trusted partners in Sierra Leone, with these partners ideally including some ex-beneficiaries of the programme. We can now announce that this vision has been realised by the formation of a board of local trustees, who are shown on the featured photograph.
The Trustee Board is made up of individuals who have supported KIK by giving their time for the charity, and also ex-beneficiaries who are now in a place to provide leadership and – importantly – to act as role models for the children on the programme.
Being ‘on the ground’ means that the local trustees – working in tandem with the UK Trustee Board – can take early and decisive action to resolve issues, or to bring back on track any projects that are deviating from plan. Clearly this shortens and improves the decision making and management processes, so we hope for great things from them.
