We are very pleased to announce that the KIK Academy has achieved full approval from the Ministry of Education, meeting all requirements, including an environmentally friendly location suitable for students, qualified teachers and governing bodies, and strong academic performance in national examinations. This approval qualifies the KIK Academy for government subsidies, payment of several teachers, and provision of learning materials.
On the environment front, two years ago the in-country trustees and school management committee initiated a 10-acre palm farm project, planting 600 trees. This project serves two key purposes – self-sustenance, by generating income to support KIK operations, and land protection, by preventing encroachment on KIK land.
Academically-speaking, the Academy now has 290 students, from pre-school to junior secondary level, with a 100% success rate in national examinations. There is also an very active involvement in extra-curricular activities, as reported upon in previous news items. All of this success has persuaded KIK to build a four classroom senior secondary school, so that students can complete all of their education at the KIK Academy. The building work is ongoing, and is expected to be complete by May 2025.
As reported upon previously, KIK also sponsors outstanding students for further education courses up to degree level. At the present time there are two such sponsorships, one for Charles Mangar, now in his third year of a Public Health degree, and one for Jambai Thomas, who is enrolled on a Distance Learning Program for a Higher Teacher’s Certificate. These sponsorships reflect KIK’s commitment to empowering our beneficiaries to achieve their full potential.
